During the first quarter of 2025, this was the smartphone that sold the most units.
According to the most recent research from Counterpoint Research, Apple and Samsung established themselves as the dominant players in the global smartphone market during the first quarter of 2025. There was only one other brand that managed to gain a position on the list, and that was Xiaomi. Together, the two businesses were responsible for nine of the top ten best-selling smartphones in the world.
After a period of two years, the vanilla iPhone was finally won.
Beginning in January 2025 and continuing through March 2025, the iPhone 16 was the smartphone that sold the most units. Since the year 2023, this is the first time that the regular iPhone model has led over sales all over the world. Particularly successful were the devices in Japan, the Middle East, and Africa, where they reported their highest levels of performance.
Four of the top four positions are held by Apple.
Both the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the iPhone 16 Pro, which were released by Apple after the iPhone 16, came in second and third place, respectively. Apple’s Pro models alone were responsible for roughly half of the company’s total iPhone sales during the quarter. The iPhone 15, which was the regular model from the previous year, came in at number four.
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G came in fifth place, making it the most popular smartphone purchased by the firm. Following it in sixth position was the Galaxy A06, which came in second. Taking seventh position on the list was Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Ultra, which was the only premium-tier device to make it into the list.
The Redmi 14C from Xiaomi was the only smartphone from a manufacturer other than Apple or Samsung to make it into the top ten rankings. It achieved the eighth spot, making it the winner of the competition.
At the ninth and tenth positions, respectively, the Galaxy A55 and the iPhone 16 Plus completed the top ten list of smartphones.
